A snippet of the damage inside.

On August 2nd, 2017 Cowlitz County Fire crews arrived at the Cinema of Horrors Haunted House (Old Three Rivers Cinema) located at Three Rivers Mall to smoke pouring out of the building which was believed to be a fire inside. After investigating, they found the source of smoke to be theatrical smoke machines which were set off by trespassers who broke into the building using the back side door.

After allowing smoke to dissipate and exit the building, we found there to be a substantial amounts of damage to the building itself and sets. Sheetrock had been kicked in creating holes 4’-6’ feet in diameter. Ceiling tiles had been ripped down along with emergency and fluorescent lighting fixtures. There were racial slurs spray painted on walls with other vulgar tags. Props, costumes, furniture, windows, theatrical light fixtures and set pieces were destroyed throughout the attraction. Vandals sprayed fire extinguishers leaving thick powder covering all of the floors upstairs and downstairs. It appears whoever was responsible stayed in the building one or more nights as there was a mattress and sleeping area setup. As we walked through, we found numerous beer cans, garbage and debris along with paint spattered on floors and walls.

Offensive graffiti sprayed on the walls and paint splattered

Treadway Events / The Cinema of Horrors and our partners strive to support our community in as many ways possible by bringing entertaining attractions such as the Cinema of Horrors and Zombie Apocalypse to the area. Our actors and volunteers build new friendships, learn new skills such as painting, special effects makeup, scenic design, costuming, acting and more.  We are newer to the area and this act of vandalism is truly heartbreaking to us and our cast. We know the old Three Rivers Cinema is special to many people and we are extremely thankful to Three Rivers Mall for giving us the opportunity to create an event like this for the Kelso/Longview community.

We ask that if you have any information pertaining to this case, you report it immediately to the Kelso Police Department. We’d like to thank Cowlitz emergency crews for their prompt response despite the circumstances.

After receiving an overwhelming amount of community support, we have decided to have a few community cleanup days. Sunday August 6th starting at 9:00AM and next weekend August 11th-12th both starting at 9:00AM. While this will be quite a setback, we won’t let this stop us! We plan to open the Cinema of Horrors on Friday, October 13th 2017. Tickets will be on sale September 1st.

Thank you for your overwhelming amount of support! We can be reached at (971) 266-1781 for any questions or concerns.
